Every full-blooded female has a vision of The One, especially for wide-eyed young hopefuls who haven’t experienced enough heartbreak to realize that there’s no such man alive who will fully encapsulate one’s idea of the right man. Though I wouldn’t characterize myself as a wide-eyed young hopeful, I certainly haven’t experienced enough heartbreak to realize that there’s no such man alive who will at least meet 90% of my standards. Such is the stranger’s dilemma.
Although it seems shallow, I specifically pertain to the idea of a “vision” because, let’s face it, although they say that females value personality over looks, it is the LOOKS that are perceived first and is probably the initial phase of attraction (I am assuming that the object in question is not met in cyberspace, or any of the like). Because of this, male strangers, in showing their interest to any female have their work cut out for them as compared to male friends.
In my opinion male friends have an advantage to showing or expressing their romantic interest, i.e. lower mortality rate, to their female friend since the vision becomes compromised. There will be a tendency for the female, if she is open-minded enough (assuming she is not in love with the male friend in the first place) to go past the looks (assuming again that the male friend does not fit the vision) and evaluate other aspects of male (personality, background, accomplishments, etc.) and somehow fit the guy into the category of The One Potentials. The female would probably entertain the notion of a possible non-platonic relationship and not dismiss the idea outright compared to a stranger.
I’m definitely not saying that strangers do not have a chance. Otherwise, females would limit themselves to schoolmates, officemates, friends of friends, friends of relatives, orgmates, what else? The notion itself is depressing. I’m just saying that a male stranger has to recognize the art of initial impression in order to get the interest of the girl enough for another encounter. This art of initial impression is more handy to those who are not endowed or confident about their looks (am I being harsh? Hehe but I think it’s a fact) because who does not dream of a decent-looking mate? The initial impressions can come in many forms, sometimes even the circumstances present itself and hence should not be limited to just an initial all-out conversation (sometimes showing that the person is too interested at first encounter freaks a girl). What would a guy do if he’s crossing the street and see a girl he is interested in and knows that he may never see her again? Sometimes it’s just too weird to stop the girl from walking and ask for her number, right? (by the way, this did not happen to me) Then make something happen. I’m just hoping that guys have enough imagination to pull it through.
So, what am I driving at? If you’re a stranger, and unless you’re one of these men who’ll I’ll love at first sight:
you might need a certain amount of imagination to make me look twice ;-)
